Las Vegas
About 10 years ago, after many years of opening Christmas presents that will never be touched again, we decided to take a family trip instead. It makes the holidays way less stressful and we enjoy spending time together as a family. This year we are heading to Vegas. My family wans to see the Hoover Dam, and Death Valley and explore Valley of Fire State Park. My goal was to book this trip for free or cheap using points. Here is how I did it:
Flights
We are flying Southwest Airlines to Las Vegas from Nashville. I booked both mine and my husband’s tickets free on points. We both have the Southwest Companion pass. So each of our kids flies free with us. We pay $11.20 per person for each of our round-trip tickets in taxes. You can read more about Southwest Companion Pass here.
Hotel
I got a room at Hyatt Place in Vegas for the first few nights of our trip. I usually get two rooms. I might add another if I have the points but right now we have one room booked for two nights on 24,000 points.
Even though I don’t think they will love it I decided to stay on the Strip a few nights. I was able to find some cheap rooms via Ceasars. Then I remembered I had some Wynhdam points from when I got the Wyndham Business Earner Card. I got this card for the free cruises you can read about here . I transferred these points from Wyndham to Caesars. This process took about 2 weeks. I transferred 52,000 points. Thanks to the sale going on at the time. I could book two rooms at Paris for 3 nights of our trip for free.
Car
Since we want to spend most of our time outside of Vegas we need a car for this trip. I had a $250 credit for signing up for the Capital One Venture card. I was able I used this credit to book our rental car for free.
