Free Flights Seattle

Thanks to the companion pass, I have flown Southwest so much! It is usually my go-to when it comes to domestic flights. I still love Southwest, but I didn’t go for a companion pass for next year. We have a lot of international plans for 2025. I already have 3 trips to Europe booked for next year (all on points). I decided at this point. I would be better off focusing on collecting other points that are more versatile.

When Tanner and I planned our $325 Alaskan Cruise earlier this year, I assumed we would use Southwest Rapid Rewards for our flights. I waited patiently for them to post the dates we needed. My jaw dropped when I saw how much the flights would be. I didn’t even have enough to book one. I knew I needed another game plan. Luckily, a few months ago I did a full point inventory. I reviewed all our accounts and saw who had points where and how many. Sometimes it is just fun to see exactly what I have and make sure I leave no benefit or point behind.

When I started panicking about the price of these tickets, I went to my list. My husband had enough points to get us both to Seattle on United. It ended up being about 16,500 United miles per ticket. These were points I had just forgotten about. He used to travel on United Airlines for work.

Once I got our flights to Seattle, I needed to work on the way home. Southwest hasn’t released its schedule. However, I do not have high hopes. I started looking at what we had available. My husband had about 17,000 Delta Miles. The direct flight home from Seattle post-cruise was only 18,000 points a ticket. I remember American Express Membership Rewards was a transfer partner with Delta, for a small fee (something about it being a domestic airline). I transferred enough points to get us both free flights home from Seattle on Delta.

So our total for this trip was $325 for the cruise, $11.20 each for flights (taxes), and a free hotel room in Seattle thanks to our Hyatt points.
