Our $2500 Miami weekend for $22.40
Our anniversary is in February. We used to go out for dinner but since I have been traveling on credit card points and travel hacks, we try to go somewhere new each year to celebrate. After our last cruise, our friends Jay and Lindy brought us back through South Beach. My husband made a huge mistake saying he would be willing to return to Miami with me for a long weekend. He does not like beaches so I didn’t even think he would do this.
I immediately started obsessing about this trip. When I saw he qualified for the companion pass through Southwest I knew this was about to become a reality. I have booked many trips next year so some of our points accounts are low. You never know when a point will be devalued so I firmly believe in earning and burning.
Here is how I made this trip happen free on points:
We are flying round-trip to Miami from Nashville. We bought one ticket with points and the other using the companion pass. The cash price to book our same flights would be $1140. We paid $11.20 each (taxes on the flight
I knew I wanted to stay at Hyatt if at all possible. They have the most generous reward stays. This is where having a card like the Chase Saphire comes in handy. You can transfer your points to any of their travel partners. Hyatt happens to be one of those partners. I had to move my ultimate rewards to Hyatt to make this happen. There are tons of amazing hotels in Miami but after our amazing drive through South Beach in November, we decided that is where we wanted to stay. I booked the Hyatt Regency Miami at first for 15k a night. Then I saw 20,000 bonus points hit my Chase Ink and I thought it’s our anniversary let’s upgrade to a better hotel. So I canceled the Regency and moved us to Hyatt Centric South Beach at 23,000 points a night. If I were to book that room today it would have been $1403.34 for two nights. Also by using reward points for this stay, they waive the resort fees!
My husband and I love traveling together. It’s one of our favorite pastimes. Without points and travel hacks, there is no way we would fly down to Miami for a quick getaway that would have cost $2500. However, for $22.40 this is a total go!
