Why I canceled my Chase Marriott card

I just canceled my Chase Marriott card. I got it last year when they offered 5 free nights with a minimum spend. The card served me well. We used those nights to go to Glacier National Park. You can read about that stellar deal here.

However, when it came time to renew, I could not think of a reason to keep it. Thanks to my American Express Gold, I get Marriott Gold status. They already awarded me my free night for this year. The annual fee is $95, and I cannot think of what I am getting in return. So I decided to let it go. Currently, I can get a sign-up bonus for Chase Marriott cards every 24 months. I am sure after I hit my 24-month mark and they offer the 5 free nights again I will eagerly add it back to my wallet but until then I say goodbye to the Chase Marriott card.

When you want to cancel a card you have just had for a year it’s best to wait until the annual fee hits. I saw the fee hit earlier this week. I contacted Chase through Messages and asked them to close the card. Within the day, I heard back they canceled my card and the annual fee would be removed.
